Governor’s Wife Seeks Funding For Women With Breast Cancer

A 45-year-old woman, Mrs. Kehinde Akingboye, who is suffering from advanced stage of breast cancer for the past seven years, has received lifeline from the Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria (BRECAN) in Ondo State.

The Caretaker Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state, where the cancer victim hails from, Mrs. Morenike Alaka, presented her case recently at the N200 million funding to support women with breast cancer in the state.

Alaka disclosed that the woman had not been taken to hospital for medical treatment due to her husband’s fear that her breast would be completely cut off.

Wife of the governor, Mrs. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, who is also the founder of BRECAN, said many women die in silence due to ignorance and financial constraints, the reason she founded the organization and has been championing the campaign that breast cancer is not a death sentence and that no woman is permitted to die of the aliment.

Akeredolu, who is a cancer survivor, averred that there was dire need to raise money for the treatment so that every Ondo State women suffering from it can get medical treatment. “There are over three million people in Ondo and if one million people can contribute N200 each, there will be excess money to provide for them. We are raising money for them to go to hospital,” she said.
