Functions Of WAEC In Nigeria

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is West Africa’s foremost examining body.

WAEC is an examination board that conducts the West African Senior School Certificate Examination, for University and Jamb entry examination in West African countries.

  1. WAEC determines the examinations required in the public interest in the English-speaking West African Countries, and to conduct such examinations and award certificates of comparable standard to those of similar examining authorities, world-wide.
  2. Assist in the development of sound education;
  3. Ensure that educational standards are maintained; and
  4. Give the people of West Africa a vision of the great potentials which lie beyond examinations.
